Casa Medina is so unusual, as it whisks you away on a holiday to the Arabian nights. Bright colours and soft lighting blend to create an atmosphere that is both enlivening and relaxing. The various spaces merge seamlessly, while sometimes changing colour or accent, to give an undeniably characteristic and special feel. There are no doors in this house; instead you find door openings with hand-made plaster archways to match the intricate stone window arches and hand-made Moroccan lamps.

The living room has a marble floor, tadelakt walls and a stone fireplace for the log fire. One of those special arches leads to the kitchen, which is is decorated in bright colour, with granite worktop, travertine tiles and equipped with a microwave, electric hob, fridge, freezer, washing machine and enough glassware and crockery to feed an army. There's no oven, but do you really want to bake a cake on holiday?

One bedroom is downstairs, complete with a spacious en-suite shower room and a sliding door onto the terrace. The other bedroom is reached via the marble staircase, and again has it's own en-suite shower-room and a juliet balcony. You can enjoy the views bathed in the morning light while barely even raising your head from the pillow.

The front terrace is a great place for breakfast, high enough for privacy from the little-used road, and with great views of the sun coming up over the mountain. There is also an intimate roof-top terrace with lots of planting, totally private yet with great views and a very special little niche. Finally, at the core of the house is the patio, sheltered even on a windy day, this is a place for outdoor dining even out-of-season. And this patio holds another secret: a Moorish rest house, a profusion of cushions and colours which is cool on the hottest of days, ideal for meditation or a quiet chat with a friend.

In the centre of Cabrera, in one direction is El Arco bar and in the other Los Pastores restaurant. The new Riad Cabrera restaurant is just 200m further on. There are many more bars and restaurants in Turre, catering for all tastes and budgets.

The owners have created a fabulous little holiday home that really appeals to the spirit. The exuberant decoration is both invigorating and soothing, and the attention to detail is first-class.

Cancellations:

Cancellation must be received in writing (fax or e-mail) no later than 30 days before arrival. Cancellations after that time, will be charged the 20% deposit.
