Casa Loma is a large private villa set just on the edge of the village of Cabrera, built on the ridge of a hill. On the one side, the views extend out across the golf course and fruit fields to several distant mountain ranges. On the other side the pool and terrace are totally secluded, with views up to the steep crags of the Sierra Cabrera, known locally as Eagle Rock (for an obvious reason).

The main floor is set up high to enjoy the expansive views, at the centre of which is the large lounge with a marble fireplace. From here, doors lead out onto an ample verandah set up high above the surroundings. Marble columns guard the arch leading to the octagonal dining room which has so many windows that every dinner guest can enjoy the view. The adjacent kitchen is large.

Marble stairs (marble is a bit of a theme here) lead up the tower to the wonderfully eccentric study with more all-round views and an unusual painted ceiling.

The master suite consists of a large bedroom complete with french doors to the large verandah, a dressing room and a bathroom extravagantly finished in blue-veined pink marble. Downstairs, there are two more bedrooms and a bathroom. Each of the bedrooms is a good "double" size and has built-in wardrobes and a french window onto a private balcony.

The outdoor space is full of hidden surprises, but the most important bit of space is the swimming pool area. There's lots of room for sunbathing in total privacy (as long as you don't mind the eagles looking at you), and also some nice shady areas in case the sun gets a little too much. This really is a wonderful spot, with the mountain starting right at the edge of the terrace. There is a barbecue area behind the house where steps lead up to yet another terrace and then straight onto the rocky outcrop that is a continuation of Casa Loma's garden.

The views from the swimming pool terrace are absolutely wonderful. The views from everywhere else are not bad either!

Cancellations:
